The Noah Project in Abilene, TX needs to be investigated, and held legally accountable. Since they are an unlicensed shelter, many staff believe state laws or minimum standards do not apply to Noah Project.
Staff abuse residents regularly using psychological, emotional, and financial abuse.
They threaten residents with termination of services if a resident expresses discomfort with arbitrary verbal rules, that are not listed in the Noah Project policy upon arrival.
They frequently discriminate against people with mental or physical disabilities, refusing or terminating services at random. This leaves vulnerable victims to either return to abusers, or potentially become homeless; putting them at extreme risk for assault, perpetuated domestic violence, or human trafficking.
Unaccompanied youth/minors were allowed to leave at any time to meet with strange men they met online.
Directors harass and retaliate against residents who bring up discrepancies with Noah Project policies and procedures.
Advocates frequently make false promises and give false hope to vulnerable victims, often leaving victims in worse shape than when they arrived.
They abuse their power against vulnerable and needy victims, and take advantage of these victims, as staff are aware victims are in a needy and desperate situation.
A mother of a medically complex and disabled child, was witnessed being denied access to her child's life saving/sustaining medication.
Advocates and directors have frequently breeched confidentiality, which is both illegal, and detrimental to victims safety and well-being.
They allowed an allegedly intoxicated mother to neglect her young toddler children, by allowing them to run in high traffic parking lots. They also allowed this same mother to verbally and/or physically assault residents and staff on an almost daily basis without terminating her services, proving unlawful favortism amongst certain staff and residents. This left many residents feeling unsafe, especially with so many children around.
Police were frequently called to the premises, and residents put on lockdown.
Security gate was often "broken" and open for hours, if not days at a time
They force unpaid labor on residents or threaten termination of services, if residents refuse to comply with unlawful requests.
They use bullying and intimidation to get residents to comply.
There are some kind staff, but the advocates, especially upper management, including members of the board, need to be thoroughly investigated and fired.
This facility was investigated when I left, and I hope they continue to be investigated, and victims are brought the justice they deserve, by holding these staff members and board members accountable.
They have separated families by putting them in seperate rooms with strangers, including family members with special needs or disabilities, who need the support or care from their family. Directors would do this in order to punish and retaliate against targeted residents, for using their voice to speak up against the wrongdoings of staff at Noah Project.
The less financial or physical resources and outside support a victim has, the more they may be targeted.
Women are frequently interrogated or blamed for their assault(s) at intake, and often denied services without any lawful or valid explanation. Victim blaming is why the statistics for unreported assaults are so high.
Women and children seek refuge from abuse and violence, by taking the very brave step to seek help, support, guidance, and safety from Noah Project. Victims don't sign up to be abused further by staff.
I pray my review helps more victims feel the courage to come forward about what happened to them at Noah Project. You matter. Your voice matters, and I guarantee you, there are people who will believe you! You're stronger than you know!
