I had a deeply disappointing experience with CAASE. While the organization claims to provide survivor-centered advocacy, my experience reflected a lack of transparency, respect, and consistency.
My legal counsel was halted without any notice to me, and eventually withdrawn altogether, leaving me with no representation or support. At times, I was confronted by multiple staff members in ways that felt dismissive rather than supportive. When I raised concerns, I was met with defensiveness instead of care and compassion. Communication was inconsistent, and critical updates were not shared in a timely or respectful manner.
What troubled me most was the sense that my voice and well-being were not prioritized. Survivors should never feel dismissed, exposed, or punished for expressing discomfort. Instead of advocacy that centered my needs, I encountered disregard for my perspective and for the impact that these decisions had on me.
CAASE publicly states that it is committed to equity, dignity, and survivor-centered support, particularly for people of color and other marginalized communities. As a woman of color, I did not feel those commitments were upheld in my experience.
The gap between their stated values and the treatment I received was profound and damaging.
I am sharing this review not just for myself, but for future survivors who turn to CAASE expecting care and advocacy. Survivors deserve transparency, respect, and consistent support. They deserve an organization that listens, honors their autonomy, and truly embodies the values it promotes. I hope CAASE takes this feedback seriously and makes meaningful changes so that others do not have to endure the same disregard.
