As intended parents looking to adopt a child, we did not have a good experience. During the home study we ran into an error of divulging information. When this was brought up we admitted to our god honest mistake. However, we knew from that August phone call we were going to be denied. We expected we would have to ‘go through the wringer’ a bit for that, but not to the degree we did. Information was requested of us, returned within a few days and then we would wait 3 weeks to hear back, which was almost always when I would reach out. Our home study began in June and was dragged out to December when we were, expectedly, denied. We knew in August by the phone conversation with Karyn it was a matter of time. In November it was noted during a phone call with the social worker we brought up ‘new’ information. Apparently we forgot to previously mention one additional item, which I swear was discussed with the social worker, but that’s when Karyn finally got the pleasure of denying us. You give everything to the social worker but your blood type, it’s hard to recall everything.
This was a terribly emotional process for us. In the end we were told that although we were being denied by Morning Star they were sure we could go to another agency and be approved. Well this was our one and only. My last ditch effort to be a mom. It was far too emotional to continue to another agency and redo the process.
After getting through the holidays and grief, in March I finally emailed requesting the withdrawal of our home study so it doesn’t go against our record. Karyn said she would send the information to us early April, including reasons why we were being denied. It is the end of July and I’ve had to send a follow up email to request these documents.
I can honestly say second to experiencing Hyperemesis Gravidarium and losing my babies, this was a painful experience. The emotional rollercoaster of providing information, waiting to hear back, discussing the same issue over and over and over again was exhausting. Again, I admit, it’s my fault for miscommunication initially but we were continuously scolded.
I’m happy to discuss my situation so others don’t have to experience what we did.

Morning Star and their team are truly incredible. From the home study process, through meeting the birth mom of our little girl, and the finalization of her adoption we were blown away by their communication, professionalism and warmth. Karyn walked us through every step of our adoption journey with patience, kindness and honesty. Highly recommend Morning Star to anybody contemplating an adoption journey.

In short, Karyn fought hard for us when things got tricky.
She was kept on us to move the process along...just the right amount of parenting 🤓.
We're grateful 🙏
