Dyllon Rainford rated 3 6 months ago The staff member’s are not perfect like the rest of us, they are good people but they lack a lot of courage and definitely choose favorites in my opinion. I stayed there for 2 and a half years! The two house managers were pretty much aloud to act and behave however they wanted and I got punished for their actions even though I would be the bigger person because it’s always easier throwing a kind hearted 26 year old “under the bus” then it is to hold an older, angry, and misbehaved man accountable to his actions! The fact that the staff allowed this kind of behavior caused a lot of damage for me for a while. I would get called very derogatory terms, threatened to have my stuff thrown into the garbage, and got bullied by the people that the staff chose to be house managers there. And the fact that the staff members claim to live by the Christian world view is what really bothers me because when it comes to ethics off bullying and harassment, they will throw a younger person under the bus! And it’s because they lack courage! Now I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the lighthouse mission because of god and sovereignty over my life. I hope the staff fix these holes that I have experienced when I was living there because their is no question they have the power to change the community for the good! God bless you all and I am only saying in hopes that they do change, which we all need to do on a daily basis! |

Dena Marie Monticone rated 3 a year ago Edit: I don't know anymore that it was such a bad thing that I was not allowed to remain at Base Camp. Maybe it was for my own good since I have read in some reviews that Base Camp can be scary? Perhaps violent? I don't know...when I walked through it briefly, I felt a sense of peace. I think I felt comfortable with most of the people who were admitted there. I guess I don't really have very many answers about this or the real reasons why I had to leave.
Mostly my original comment before my update above:
I was not allowed to stay there. I had nowhere else to go. It was night. It was cold. I am sick. I was tired. I had been hesitant to give my legal name at check in. The guy would not have a conversation with me about my reasons. He was impatient. He didn't care about me. He kicked me out almost immediately because I hesitated.
It sucked that night for me.
But they did give me a free blanket, which I passed on to someone else who seemed to be in need (he was also not allowed to stay there). They gave me free extra socks. They gave me a free cup of water. Some other staff were certainly more cordial and generous. And at least the guy who kicked me out let me use the toilet room before he kicked me out. |
