I had been homeless for about a year. Had my camp behind Hope Connection. I didn't really care for the shelter but that was more on me than them. Once I finally decided enough was enough, I did their assessment. It took about two months for them to place me with Volunteers of America and I moved into my own apartment! I've heard quite a few people say Hope Connection wouldn't help them. It takes time and you have to do your part. Once you've let them know you are homeless, the Out Reach team will come out to where you are sleeping and verify that you in fact are homeless. Once they do that, you have to go to them and let them know you want an assessment. It is not automatic. There are steps you have to take. They are dealing with so many people and trying their best. If you've done an assessment and you're next on the list to get housing but they can't get a hold of you, they go to the next person and you have to try again. At least that's my understanding of how it works. How can they help you if they can't find you . I think that's why a lot of people say they don't help. The resources they provide are amazing. Between Hope Connection and Christian services they provide meals, clothing, showers, allow you to do laundry. You have to be patient and do your part. Also, be respectful. They are people too.

Personally I had a heat stroke with temperature of 109°. After that extreme health issue Wesley allowed me residents and safe haven along with so many other amazing people. Shreveport homeless community and action groups created. Frankly are supportive across the board. I personally have the luxury of volunteering. I could refer to the staff as gifts to us all. When I started cleaning up what we call a CAP/ COORDINATED ASSESSMENT PROGRAM. Braggingly I had the pleasure of getting to know our CEO Krista. Honestly without personal association along with her knowledge. I was gifting that more insights and understanding of or navigator team and outreach along with the case management. Wesley, provided me that safe living situation, is now the head of that area of case management. When I look at team members like Fred, Patricia, Beverly also Tracy and along with Courtney. You grow attached to the personal effort and association they've shown me. Everyone becomes the family you always deserved. The head of our facilities name is Tate and has allowed me that level of volunteering where I feel accepted and confident enough, to serve the rest of our community. My brain is drilled with Krista's first message on her dry board. She doesn't claim to coin the phrase. I do believe it was her genius, lol "In order to find yourself, lose yourself in the service of others" I would repeat it when I would have a difficult time, over and over again. Overtime you reach your own personal realization of that brilliantly made statement. Personally grateful for the consideration and effort again that they have shown me.
