I want to share my experience this past week at the first step women’s center to hopefully help another woman in her pregnancy journey. I suspected by my last period I was just under 8 weeks, the staff was all very kind and understanding through my entire appointment. When it came time for the ultrasound after a positive pregnancy test, I was told I most likely had a unviable pregnancy and would miscarry. What was shown on the screen appeared to just be an empty sack that measured right over 8 weeks. They did refer me to see my regular OB. Devastated, the following day my fiancé and I go to my OB and explain the situation. After a physical exam, she is not convinced by the size of my uterus that I am 8 weeks. After another ultrasound come to find out the empty sack that I was told of the day before to be a unviable pregnancy, was a small fluid filled cyst in my right ovary and I was approximately 5 weeks pregnant. After bloodwork we are told everything is normal and in a couple weeks can do another ultrasound to verify. When first step was contacted for the ultrasound taken, the nurse who called was told the results hadn’t been read by a doctor yet and weren’t available. Please do not tell anyone what is going on with their body unless you are 100% positive and educated enough to do so.
