🚨Warning! Lengthy Review🚨 If you are a disabled individual with limited mobility, I wouldn’t recommend this shelter at ALL! I was referred to this shelter by a representative from the Heart Organization in Arlington, who informed me that Arlington Life Shelter had a spot available for me per the Arlington Life Shelter and they advised the them to inform me to arrive by 2 PM. So as advised I did exactly that after having put all my belongings in a public storage unit before going. Upon my arrival, I underwent the intake process only to be told that I would not be accepted only after I had spoken to the employee Elizabeth about another topic of discussion to where she then mentions that I’m an ER resident and not an actual resident and that I would need to prepare to find somewhere else to go. I then old her that I was unaware of this decision and that I had no where to go and her response to me was that it’s not for them to figure out but for me to figure out which I found to be very insensitive without any form of compassion whatsoever. This was not only disheartening to hear but also contrary to the information I had received prior to my arrival. Furthermore, I was informed by staff members that I would be assigned a case manager within 3 to 5 days of my arrival. However, I later learned that my status as an "emergency resident" was temporary and that I would only be able to stay until the weather improved. It was never made clear to me of this decision during my intake process. Even if I was told that I was an ER resident, how would I know what an ER resident is being that it is my first time being at this shelter nor am I privy to how the intake process works. During my intake, I disclosed that I am physically disabled and identified as a fall risk. I felt compelled to make this clear to ensure that any necessary accommodations could be provided to safeguard my well-being. However, shortly after this disclosure, the operations manager Jarrod Polk approached me and asked several probing questions that led me to feel that there was concern about my ability to stay in the shelter due to my disability. This interaction left me feeling marginalized and questioned my worthiness of the support I sought. I believe that everyone, regardless of their situation, should be given a fair opportunity to access the resources and support that’s available for their recovery and stability as well as shelters being more informative about their policies of who they accept and don’t accept upfront before allowing someone into their establishment and turning them away with no where to go when they don’t meet their guidelines. I respectfully requested that my case be revisited and that the shelter's policies regarding residents with disabilities be reviewed to ensure that they were safe inclusive and compassionate. The entire staff was rude to the residents treating them like convicts in a maximum security prison and when you try to speak up for yourself they threaten to put you out. So I was put out because I was told due to my income being unlivable. But aren’t all shelters supposed to help anyone trying to better their lives with or without unlivable income? I digress. When I tried informing the Director of this her response was basically the same as the employees and I was told to vacate their shelter and their property on a walker with limited mobility! So I then called the Arlington PD and when the officer went in to get their side of the story they literally gave the officer false stories of my being a combative resident who was arguing & mouthing off to the staff members which wasn’t true at all. Arlington life shelter isn’t a shelter EVERYONE needing shelter! It’s a working shelter ONLY! Meaning they only house individuals who are working, and if you’re not currently working, they give you a couple weeks to find a job and if you haven’t found a job by the allotted time window they will put you out.

CEO I hope you read this watch your staff really keep a eye on this place cause staff isn't doing their jobs you got people in here talking about gang stuff threatening to take someones life over a little argument literally that person is in there looking for trouble and it's not only one person he messes with. He also does it right in front of staff that person talks garbage and staff just laughs it off and no it's not only one person there's multiple persons here that get their feelings hurt and go straight to violence and staff hears it but does nothing to put a end to it.
