Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA)

I want to express how grateful I am for AVDA, especially Ms. Hayley. She has been very impactful in my journey. She helped me understand what was happening in my relationship. She listened to me and cared about my concerns, emotions, and experience. It’s my time with her that motivated me to look for a therapist to continue with my healing journey and to reconnect with myself. l hopeful moving forward with open eyes and an open heart. I’m not done healing but I welcome the change needed because of my experience. Thank you for being there when I needed you. 🫶🏽

In my experience, AVDA showed a lot of favoritism, and the head counselor and her intern did not treat me well. Instead of feeling supported, I felt more alone because of their lack of compassion. I was also uncomfortable that my ex, who was abusive and a police officer, was allowed to take classes there. It made me feel like the organization cared more about its own interests than helping clients. $$$ When I tried to share my concerns before, the counselor spoke to me in a very harsh and unprofessional way. I’ve never had a counselor talk to me like that. Based on my experience, I would recommend the Houston Area Women’s Center instead—they’ve been much more supportive.

I’m deeply grateful to AVDA for the excellent legal support I received. Attorney Jhanan Sharaf and assistant Yuri Jiménez were truly a blessing throughout my process — for both me and my daughter. Their professionalism, compassion, and dedication made a real difference in our lives. I highly recommend AVDA and their amazing team.
