The Midwife Center was incredible for my entire pregnancy and birthing experience. The prenatal care was exactly as I had hoped for, recommendations are made but the decision making is really left up to you. Every appointment begins with the midwife asking if you have any questions or concerns. I’m starting to miss being there so often for appointments! I’m a first time mom and my labor was fairly long, everyone we encountered from phone calls at the beginning to the nurses and midwives that were at the birthing center, were so supportive the entire time. I felt safe and cared for the entire time. The post partum follow up has also been great, including the lactation check in calls and seeing the lactation consultant- Cheryl, who is such an awesome nurse. So knowledgeable and reassuring.

I feel so fortunate to have had a decade of care through the Midwife Center. They provide exceptional well-woman and prenatal care. The midwives are compassionate, thorough, and highly skilled. I felt very safe and cared for during and after both pregnancies. The prenatal classes were informative and they took the time to answer any questions that I had (and a first time mom has a lot!) during my appointments. They supported my decisions to birth in the hospital without judgement and stayed with me when both births ended in unplanned c-sections. After the babies were born, they were available for lactation support and the midwives truly seemed to care about how I was healing and adjusting. I could not have asked for better experiences!

TMC has my heart forever. I birthed all three of my children under their care (one back during mercy days, one at the 'old' facility and one in the new digs). My last baby was even born at the height of the pandemic. Honestly cannot say enough about this place and these people. After each of my babies I actually felt sadness at my 6 week check up bc it was 'over'. I truly trust these women and believe whole heartedly that they CARE about the families they serve. I feel so thankful that Pittsburgh has such an amazing facility for birthing people. I had such empowering experiences with them that I felt pulled to also get into birth work and am now a doula and birth photographer. I have the unique opportunity to see inside lots of different birth spaces in this role and I can say without a doubt that TMC is is just, special. I never hesitate in recommending them to my own clients and it's a great joy when I have the opportunity to work along side TMC midwives and nurses. #1 TMC fan girl. Also 100% worth noting-best cheesy scrambled eggs in the city hands down.

Have been a patient of the midwife center for gynecological care for nearly a decade and love the care I receive. This past year, I had the chance to have my prenatal care with them as well. While I ended up transferring to a hospital for birth, my care throughout my pregnancy was exceptional and I loved being a patient at the midwife center. Very grateful to have an organization like this in Pittsburgh.

For my first pregnancy, I was really intrigued by the philosophy of the Midwife Center. They advertise as warm and hospitable with personal care compared to that of a hospital. For each appointment, I got to meet with a new midwife. Many of them were very warm and friendly and would answer any questions that I would ask. However, it was my perception and expectation from orientation that I would be getting to know each midwife so that there was a personal relationship developing before giving birth. However, it was very evident that once the appointment reached around 20 minutes, it was time to leave by them shuffling papers, etc. Even though the care wasn't what I was expecting, I figured they have other appointments waiting. Then fast forward to the last week of pregnancy. I was due July 29th. It was July 26th when my body started showing signs of labor. That afternoon I called the Midwife Center to alert them of what was happening. Then that evening the contractions started to really increase their frequency. So I called again to update what was happening. The Midwife on call shared with me to try and sleep through the contractions, go on exercise ball, drink lots of water, etc. This was my first pregnancy so I just wanted to make sure everything was okay because I did not want to have a baby on the parkway since we live 30 minutes away. I also was having severe back labor and I was in a lot of pain already. I tried sleeping through the contractions but couldn't since they were coming more frequent, I showered, drank lots of water, was on the exercise ball, and doing my breathing techniques. The contraction rate then was consistently at 5 minutes apart last 1 minute for 1 hour. At around midnight, I called the midwife again to let her know what was happening. One of the first things she said was, "I told you not to call back until your contractions were 4 minutes apart". I looked at my husband and we both were stunned at her response. Then I told her that I was in a lot of pain and she said that if I was in that much pain I wouldn't be able to talk. Her attitude made me feel very uncomfortable to have her the one responsible for delivering my baby. I didn't quite understand why she was being so cold considering I was in labor with my first child. She made me feel like what I was experiencing was not true. But my intuition knew something was happening. I therefore decided to go to a hospital to get checked out. When I arrived at the hospital, I was already 4 cm dilated and delivered a few hours later. The care that I received at the hospital was great from the moment I arrived. If we are able to have more children, I plan to get care through this hospital instead if the Midwife Center.
