I have been trying to get help leaving my abuser since last summer. They don't return calls here. Two weeks ago I took a day off work so I could go in person to make an appointment since I had been trying to get help via phone for so long w/no results. I was able to get an appointment (FINALLY) for that Wednesday, only two days later. I took time off work that Wednesday, went to my appointment I'd waited so long for, and worked so hard for, only to find out AFTER I got there that the person I had made the appointment with didn't go to work that day. It's been a couple weeks now and still no call back to reschedule. When I went in person to make the appointment I was sobbing - very emotional. I find it sad that the person saw my distress, made an appointment with me, didn't show or call to let me know wouldn't be there for the appointment and STILL hasn't called to reschedule. As abuse victims, it takes ALOT to put ourselves out there like that and attempt to get help. I made it out safely but in no way via the help of The Center for Prevention of Abuse. I would never recommend anyone go there. In fact, I would say "don't". As someone who has gone through the abuse, our psyche is already fragile and we're scared, but add to that the lack of any kind of response/help from the place that in its own name implies that they will help: The Center for Prevention of Abuse, and it's a rougher ride emotionally when you're begging the people who promise to help but never do. You're just thrown away.

With all due respect this is the worse place you can EVER go if you been through domestic violence or sexual assault. I never recommend this place to anyone not even my worst enemy. I have been here twice.. The first time I went there was because I was in a DV relationship in I wanted help to get in op against him ASAP long story short they refused to help me in give me the proper support and resources they claim they gave me in they refused to help me get that op so I decided to leave in go back home … few weeks later I had to come back because my abuser found me at my house again in this time sexually assaulted me so I went to the hospital, I made a police report in everything I had proof in evidence of the documents that the hospital in police gave me so when I return to the shelter the second in finally time “hopefully” they didn’t believe it in I told them numerous time I give you the right to call the hospital to verify the information but they refused to do so because apparently people make fake reports to get into the shelter when deep down I told them they can verify all the information I give them long story short I didn’t get the proper care that I need in deserve I will be leaving this shelter in about a week or two in I will be leaving this shelter traumatised with more PTSD. The staff say they will support you but deep down they will laugh behind you back in act friendly in your face like they actually care which is deceptive . They talking about us patients being the biggest manipulators but yet yall the biggest manipulators by having us trust you guys with are personal information but yet failed to support in help us when needed. I feel like this place is a joke. I feel like these staff members got secrets , these staff members not giving us help in basically bullying us in laughter behind or back “if you pay attention enough you realize it “. But that not all. The APS adults protected services is trash long story short if Halston Williams had protected me the first time I would have not been here the second time . There is more hurtful things going on with this place besides the stuff that I mentioned so please I advise you to look somewhere for help. I am trying to help others that is in my position. Please seek help somewhere else beside this location. It’s filled with filth in lies .

As many others have said in the reviews, they are cold and unhelpful in many cases. I’m sure they are a great help to someone in need of their services but for others they seem to be continually re-traumatizing them and furthering the abuse rather than preventing it.
