Tacoma Rescue Mission

Got rid of a giant bag of old clothes and wanted them to go to someone in need ans not goodwill for a profit l. Easy to get to and someone came right out!

Not the place for white boy. Ten years ago I was on the street in Tacoma and went to the mission for help. I was ignored by office staff. I was bullied by other black men every morning in the bed area. They would play their racist games and not let me up off my bunk and stuff like that. Verbal abuse. Do not stay here. Amazing food but if you're white this is not the place for you.

Management on the women's side: depending on who's there you may or may not get what you need. I also feel like there isn't enough staff in the evenings leaving them to be overwhelmed or irritable when handling residents. Beds: Stop giving beds to people that unable to take care of themselves WITH the knowledge of them risk losing their beds if they have a medical emergency or is at the hospital for more than 3 days Food handling: Depending on who's there, meals tend to be over looked leading to under cooked meat or moldy that day or a few times in a row risking food poisoning. Property: Outside of the property is full of tents (EVEN IF IT'S TEMPORARY) which leaves trash, drugs, rotten food, animal/human secretions and unsafe makeshift campfires attracting rats and bugs nearby. Resources and case managers: I'm speaking from my perspective when I talk about this. If your interested in the resources that are provided then they will work with you. They will tell you up front from the jump. Unfortunately those resources might take up all of your stay if you're not lucky to find a job in time...
