SAFE on Main

I had a positive experience with Safe on Main, and I especially want to recognize Kim for the support she provided me during such a difficult time. From the very beginning, Kim was compassionate, patient, and truly understanding. She took the time to listen, educate me on what to expect, and help me feel more prepared for what was ahead. Very grateful for Kim's support and Safe on Main as a whole for supporting and being a resource for women who find themselves in situations that they couldn't have imagined- and to help these individuals realize they're not alone. Thank you all.

My counselor gave me the number to call and I called three separate times. And asked for three different kinds of help! Everything I asked was told they didn't offer. They didn't go above and beyond they didn't even seem to want to be bothered. And offered me no help with anything

Previous bad reviews have got to be people who just didn’t want to follow rules. Yes this place has rules but every single rule I encountered was NOT arbitrary, the rules all had very good reasons. These people were all SO KIND, I stayed here last year, I made connections in this shelter that will last a lifetime. It is CLEAN and SAFE. The showers are hot, they can connect you with ANY resources you need and will happily do so. Legal, food, housing assistance, utilities, childcare etc etc. You can’t bring pets BUT they will refer you to a pet foster care service if you ask. You DO have to put in the work to attain these resources yourself but SAFE staff supported me and applauded my progress every stop of the way. BRING YOUR DOCUMENTS - it’ll make everything go faster. I had never stayed in a shelter in my entire life but physical, financial, sexual and emotional abuse forced me out of my home. I owned a house, I built a family and I finally had to leave it. It took me WAY too long to pick up the phone and call shelters. It took me 3 years of housing instability and intermittent homelessness to finally make the call. It shouldn’t have taken me so long. Please ignore these bad reviews. The case managers here are amazing and deserve raises and extra vacation time and all of the things in the world because they are angels. If angels on earth are real? These people are it. And my kids loved them all and they had plenty to do. There’s a playroom, a little playground and tv. Me and my kids got even closer during this experience. I am now in my new place absolutely THRIVING and it’s a rollercoaster of emotions but my kids are so much more at peace, and so am I. If you are worried about not being comfortable at this shelter, stop worrying. This shelter is amazing. Take the plunge and let these people catch you, because they will.
