I am writing to share my experience with Legal Services of Northwest Jersey and my assigned attorney, Melissa Kiefer. I sought their help during an extremely difficult time, I was facing eviction and a custody case while also caring for my dying mother. Unfortunately, the legal advice I received caused devastating consequences for me and my family. I was advised to state that I was not mentally stable and would begin therapy, which led to significant delays in the return of my children. Because the terms of my housing were tied to having my children with me, this ultimately allowed my ex-husband to evict me from our home of 14 years. As a result, I lost both my home and custody of my four children for seven months. I trusted that my attorney would act in my best interest and help me protect my family, but instead I was left feeling misled, unsupported, and betrayed during the most vulnerable period of my life. I hope this review encourages LSNWJ to review how cases like mine are handled, and to ensure that no one else experiences the same outcome. It was an absolute horrific experience and honestly absolutely disgusting. . . I once was in the hallway on a call with my mother as she was at the cancer center and Melissa came to me “get off the phone, I don’t care get off the phone” and in that moment I was in absolute silence from how rude and unprofessional she was. She spoke to me as though I was a child! I was so uncomfortable and could not wait to leave that day. I then proceeded to borrow money to retain a professional attorney and one who knew what he was doing and literally had my kids returned to me in one hearing. I’m not quite sure how some people are allowed to practice but the facts that she had 3 beautiful young minds shadow her during my case literally brings me to tears, because they would only be shadowing failure! Her technique is settling over fighting. Basically anything to close up a case and go to the next. Now my children and I are left with broken hearts to have lost our home because she convinced me I didn’t have a chance to fight. As a result I must deal with the consequences of 4 children whose mental health and behavior has declined drastically. Yes my review may seem quite lengthy but I advise anyone who can’t afford an attorney to not use this office or at least not this individual as I don’t believe using the term “attorney” is appropriate.
