Kendall County Women's Shelter

This shelter is here to help you as long as they see you’re willing to help yourself. The staff is so nice and supportive. The shelter is clean and fancy. We have parenting classes, counseling, kids get after school tutoring, art therapy (all of this is optional). Please take advantage of the resources and the time you have here to get yourself where you need to be. I want to give a special shout out to the Big Dawg Ms. (C) thanks for having us. Ms. (A) was so comforting on the ride picking us up and just easing our racing minds. And last but NOT least I can’t and will never forget about Ms. (D) Lord she’s the best at just listening and checking in on everyone making sure everyone is well and have everything they need. She literally clock in and spend time with everyone mothers and child/(children) and act fast with any concern I promise she does. Anyways thank you ladies for being AMAZING. I would not donate to the Kendall County Women’s Shelter (KCWS) thrift store after my experience at the donation center. On Facebook, the admin office presented a list of items needed due to shelter overcapacity; they had 34 people (25 children, ages infant to 17). The list included a TV; the shelter had NONE. It was July and HOT. I purchased bins of new goods from the list, and bought a small used perfectly functioning TV/DVD player system, with 30 DVD’s, mostly educational. KCWS Admin Brooklynn and Emma directed me to the donation center, where Ms. Parreira argued she would not accept electronics. I told her it was on admin’s list, but she was furious she was not told of “the list!” Eventually, rudely, she commanded me to place everything in her wagon. Later, I learned the TV system never made it to the shelter. I returned to speak with Ms. Parreira, who claimed ignorance, but looked guilty as sin. She blamed the admin office for not giving her “the list” of shelter needs, but that was a poor excuse as I told her about it. Shelter staff told me they surely could use the system. At the admin office, Emma apologized about Ms. Parreira. So, I agreed to order a 55” smart TV, if the admin office would accept a direct Best Buy delivery. Best Buy called me regarding the delivery, so I called the admin office, but they failed to answer the phone that day, and the next two days. I believe I’m being stonewalled, and Ms. Parreira has something to do with that. I was able to confirm the shelter received the TV, but no thanks to the admin office. I could not even get a donation receipt. Clearly, KCWS lost sight of their mission to help battered women and their children. Humility and Kindness is lacking.

This facility is beautiful. They have programs that will help you get your life together. You do have to be proactive. All they ask is you help keep facility clean. Simple little tasks that take less than 30 minutes of your time. Also keep your appointments and participate in planned activities/ events and counseling. Focus on your path to a better life. That’s why you are here and that’s what this facility was created for. This is your opportunity to rebuild your life and in doing so you will become the best version of you. There’s absolutely no reason why anyone can’t have the life they want. You’ve already did the hardest steps possible. Leaving a bad situation and asking for help. With that being said, don’t stop wanting a better life. There’s one out there for everyone to have. Your stay here is only as good and productive as you make it. I’m grateful for this facility because it saved me in my hours of need. Allowing me to focus on a better and productive life. A life I had longed for. Thank you Boerne for this facility, thank you for your patience, for peaceful sleeping nights, for all the amenities of washers and dryers, on suite bathrooms and providing food so that I can prepare my meals. Thank you for everything I needed in becoming the woman I am proud of today. ~ I pray that Almighty God, our Lord of Lord and King of Kings keep his hand over your head and always keep you in his favor. As he was with you in your darkest hours and lead you to this facility where you have peace of mind to be able to make good decisions and better choices. With a staff that is able to help you get on the path our Lord has set for you. As you leave here to start your new life, I pray you find all the happiness you seek.
