My landlord sucks and decided not to pay his mortgage, so our rental home is in foreclosure because of his irresponsibility. I called county records to make sure, and they confirmed it. I had some basic tenant questions, like how long can we remain in the home, etc., and they told me to call Legal Aid. I called and Legal Aid customer service refused to even take 5 minutes to answer a few extremely basic questions, without first assessing how much money we make. That is appalling. The State of Florida should protect tenants and offer, FOR FREE, on a website, exactly what you can and should do if your landlord screws up and doesn't pay his mortgage and causes foreclosure, regardless of your income. No one should ever have to pay for an attorney to answer a few basic questions because someone else broke their contract and isn't paying their mortgage! Legal aid is worthless. I also recall calling about a toxic mold issue as a tenant, in our former home, and got the same run-around. The issue wasn't our fault, and yet we were required to pay for basic questions to get answered. Legal Aid a worthless resource for the vast majority of residences in Saint John's County, and I'm disgusted by both of my experiences. I do not recommend them.
