As a 9-point Calvinist, I must say this church doesn't go far enough to spread the truth that IS Calvinism. They're getting there though! Right now, Pastor Nathan and his crew still need to operate in stealth mode as they condition members... but much of their congregation is at least naïve enough to buy in eventually. This pastor is so educated... how can any member still not see the light? They've been so very helpful in my theological conditioning! For example, I've been taught by other false teachers that sanctification comes through reading the Bible... but since sanctification is a process in salvation, and since we are so utterly depraved and can't even choose to believe without God's irresistible grace, reading the Bible is nothing more than a synergistic heresy!... Reading Scripture would mean I'm participation in sanctification which means I'd be participating in salvation, so I stopped doing that. If you actually read the Bible, you'll find it contradicts Calvinism in so many areas, so you too should simply ignore it... In fact, I stopped going there altogether!... choosing to drive there every Sunday for worship is just more dangerous synergism. All that said, I trust that once they change their constitution from a "led by the pastor" model to a full "led by the entire eldership" model, which is currently in process, the pastor will be able to surround himself with an unstoppable powerhouse of Calvinists, and should be able to assimilate the congregation in no time... Keep up the good work!

Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg offers a welcoming and engaging worship experience. The music was powerful, creating an atmosphere of deep reverence and joy. I also appreciated how smooth and easy the kids’ check-in process was, making it a stress-free experience for families. The sermon focused on the question, What is the church? The preacher built his message around Jonathan Edwards’ idea that the image of God is restored in Christ, which provided a rich theological foundation. I especially appreciated his Trinitarian perspective on leadership, which offered a compelling framework for understanding how the church should function. However, I found his conclusion on church leadership structure to be somewhat limited. He based his argument on Paul’s letter to Timothy, but I believe this interpretation could be challenged by asking deeper questions—such as who wrote the letter, to whom it was written, and for what purpose. Context matters, and a broader exploration of early church leadership might offer a more nuanced understanding. Heritage Baptist provides a fantastic worship environment and thoughtful teaching, even if I might approach some of the theological conclusions differently. While I appreciated the pastor's enthusiasm and conviction, I couldn't help but feel that a more careful examination of the biblical text would have strengthened the argument. Overall: Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg has a lot to offer, from inspiring worship to smooth logistics. While the preaching was thought-provoking, I hope that future sermons will prioritize careful biblical exegesis and contextual understanding.
