if you need emergency shelter it’s a good place and they do help but some of that staff needs to be retrained or something because the way they speak to these women is disrespectful. you don’t help anybody by talking to them as if they’re a child or lesser than you. doors lock at 5 pm and they say to call if you’re going to be late. i explained multiple times that i would be moving states soon and was trying to get a number of things done before my flight and i can back at around 5:30 and one of the women (the black lady with the moles on her face) at the front desk had an attitude threatening to kick me out if im late again and asking me if i knew what time it was. i saw another lady who works there the old white lady in the scrubs harass a mother and follow her to her room telling her to basically watch her mouth. stop harassing these women and riling them up then getting in your feelings when they defend themselves. and they will take your phone without any word if you have it charging anywhere on the premises outside of the charging window. and when i tried to ask them to change my phone behind the desk like one of the ladies did since my charging port didn’t fit the one they had they got an attitude saying no and basically made me walk 30 minutes (mind you i’m 5 months pregnant at this point) to find somewhere to charge it so i would have a working phone so call my rides to work. don’t go into a field to help people who are at their worst and talk to them any kind of way and break them down even more. these women need genuine love care and support and harassing them and bucking up to them isn’t the way to go especially when half of them are older and probably 40-50+.

I had the opportunity recently to volunteer at the First Light shelter. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and organization of the facility. The staff that I met were very kind, upbeat and helpful. I had not heard of this shelter before but I am grateful for the services they provide to women and children.

I just want to thank first Light for all their help. They have been amazing so helpful kind and giving organization. Those that leave bad reviews is because they messed up themselves .Follow the rules and put in the work and save. Remember this is not a home but a shelter to get you into your own place. I love my apartment that I was able to save and get. Thank you Patricia, Geneva April, Sherry, Bianca, Becky, volunteers and other staff. Love you ladies can't thank you enough for letting me be a guest and taking good care of me.
