I visited DCRC some time ago seeking support. While I ultimately did receive the help I needed, my experience was mixed. During my visit, I interacted with Cheryl, who I felt was unprofessional. At one point, it seemed like her voice was raised in the hallway talking to either other people seeking services or colleagues, which was very upsetting for me and felt re-traumatizing given the nature of why I was there. I would say this is not a space for individuals with that attitude working with victims. That said, I want to acknowledge that other staff members I worked with were very helpful, understanding, and compassionate, and they made a difficult experience more manageable. I appreciated the support they provided. Overall, while DCRC offers important services, I believe staff professionalism and awareness of how behavior and tone can impact survivors especially in shared spaces needs improvement. However, please get the help if you need it and just ask for someone else if it's Cheryl.

We came in without an appointment to get a protective order, and they spent the entire morning and half the afternoon helping us fill out paperwork and understand the system. They helped us get a temporary protective order on the very same day. They were also extremely kind about the three rambunctious kids we brought with us, and patiently explained the process multiple times to make sure we understood. They have snacks, hygiene products, and school supplies. They have a kids room for children to be in, which has toys and video games, so the kids don't need to be around sensitive discussions. They also checked to see if we need help with housing and food. Truly, the staff are amazing and we can't thank them enough.

They helped me file a 50B free of charge. I only wish they had told me that I could redact my address.
