I'm grateful to Dove Shelter for providing safety and structure during a difficult time. The staff showed compassion and professionalism despite the emotional demands of the work, and I respect the weight they carry supporting so many families. That said, it's important to share what future residents should know. The program operates on a strict 30-day timeline. I received a 7-day extension due to internal miscommunication..not progress. Certain opportunities were withheld based on assumptions about my capacity, and not all meetings were offered because of logistical limitations. That lack of communication cost me critical time. A resident’s emotionally aggressive behavior toward me and my children was addressed but ultimately dismissed as expected conflict. That made clear the limits of emotional safety. Dove offers referrals, but the model is consistent across shelters: fast timelines, limited flexibility, and high expectations. Extended support is rare and tends to favor those with fewer barriers. Large families may find the system less accommodating. To future residents: Enter with a plan already in motion. This is not a place to rebuild from scratch. It is a place to pause.briefly.while completing your next step. If you’re in full crisis with no groundwork, the experience may add more strain than relief. Dove is a short-term tool. Used strategically, it can help. But it is not built to carry the full weight of rebuilding.

Wow. Every single person here made me and my children feel welcome and appreciated every step of the way, from the phone call, to our last day with them. They offered so many incredible resources to me and I was just blown away that so many amazing souls could all be in one place. What a gift. Thank you ladies.
