I am writing this review specifically about the representative we have worked with Adwoa Tawiah, whom I believe works in the department of Continuum of Care, but is encompassed in the Shelby County Community Services umbrella.
We are a two-person household(one of which is permanently disabled, and the other is a SSA appointed full-time caregiver without pay and a full-time college student. We, because of three significant Covid occurrences over the last three years, each with onset Pneumonia, have found ourselves in a recurrent status of homelessness. We reached out everywhere, and I mean everywhere, inclusive Memphis Housing Authority, MIFA, Memphis Area Legal Services, Memphis Fair Housing Authority, even all the non-profit organizations only to be treated like we were of no importance or value. Keeping it real, MHA, MIFA, Memphis Area Legal Services, and MFHA were not just dismissive, but were extremely rude and were exactly evidence of why Memphis, by far, has the worst ratings across the country in how they treat, handle, and operate their services.
The shining light in all of our efforts, was the efforts, kindness, attention, and the professionalism of Adwoa Tawiah. Whether through Continuum of Care or Shelby County Community Services, It is our greatest hope that those who represent your Agencies or departments and are recognized by the very people your developed, financed, and delegated to assist are done so with the excellence we received. Further, we could not receive what we hoped to end our recurring homelessness, but we received all that was available to atleast provide us temporary housing.
To Shelby County Community Services and Continuum of Care Director's and Head's of their Departments, Please note individuals like Adwoa Tawiah who are the best exemplification of what other departments and agencies are severely lacking. We were treated like we mattered; It gave us hope and help, and we received the ultimate professionalism. We are seeking Emergency Housing Voucher opportunities, some help longer term but we just get hung up on. Thank you Adwoa Tawiah for being the best and thank you for caring and doing your job beyond what is required. You make your Agency proud and we as citizens grateful.
