I have attended for 6 years weekly. My head is calm . My head used to feel like a beehive nest buzzing nonstop. And there once was a black cloud over my head. I am most willing to work with people who care and understand what trauma does to us. It take courage to stay persistent and consistent. The reward is a calmer peaceful life that slowly surfaces with their taught skills.

I left a 1-star review in the past, due to an upsetting experience I had with a woman/counselor who was not compassionate when I received phone counseling for trauma from sexual assault. While I no longer receive counseling here, and- thanks to God, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit- am receiving counseling elsewhere I still wanted to leave this review in hopes steps are taken for improvement of this establishment. I left 3 stars (though I wanted to leave 2.5 stars) since I did have a positive experience at the shelter, as a child, and God helped me realize I wasn't being fair or honest to leave 1 star, since I didn't include my positive experience from child-hood, and focused instead only on the negative that occured in my adulthood. God would want me to be honest, not biased, and not moved by my emotions or unforgiveness. Jesus lovingly forgave me when He died on the cross for my many sins, and He died for these volunteers at Blackburn Center, also. Since God wants me to forgive others, and have mercy and love for them- the same way He's treated me- I have to say I forgive you, woman-counselor, for being unkind to me during our phone session in the past, and I hope the best for you. Like the Lord taught me over many years: I have to love people who hurt me; like the saying goes "Love the sinner, and hate the sin." Thank You, for Your divine love and truth, Jesus.

They are extremely caring, they follow up when they say they will, and really has a lot of resources for what some may consider a smaller county domestic violence shelter. Please don’t hesitate to call them if you or a friend or family member need help.

I would love to thank Blackburn for all of the work that you guys have done for me. I am truly grateful for the support and encouragement. I was wrong about the shelter and if you women didn’t help me I don’t know where I would be without you women. I highly recommend anyone who needs help with anything dealing with domestic abuse please contact Blackburn. They give second chances to people who lose hope and feels like no one cares but they do care I’m grateful for your support and love and understanding.

Rude staff. Will tell you they don't believe you simply based on factors such as age. Shared personal information on other clients they had which is an extreme violation of their rights. The sessions my friend experienced were unhelpful and anxiety inducing. People come here for help—not to be accused and belittled. Especially after horrible experiences they are currently still undergoing. When your client tells you point blank that they would like to not discuss a certain topic with a therapist who is very clearly biased against them maybe take the hint! They're here for something completely different, not whatever mundane thing you would rather talk about that you think is more important. Stop treating your clients like they are liars. Stop telling your clients your other clients personal information! I do not recommend this place.
