Reached out to them for help on housing. No good service! The staff treated me unfairly based on the color of my skin. This place is not for people of color. I was not able to receive help here.

I have attended for 6 years weekly. My head is calm . My head used to feel like a beehive nest buzzing nonstop. And there once was a black cloud over my head. I am most willing to work with people who care and understand what trauma does to us. It take courage to stay persistent and consistent. The reward is a calmer peaceful life that slowly surfaces with their taught skills.

I left a 1-star review in the past, due to an upsetting experience I had with a woman/counselor who was not compassionate when I received phone counseling for trauma from sexual assault. While I no longer receive counseling here, and- thanks to God, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit- am receiving counseling elsewhere I still wanted to leave this review in hopes steps are taken for improvement of this establishment. I left 3 stars (though I wanted to leave 2.5 stars) since I did have a positive experience at the shelter, as a child, and God helped me realize I wasn't being fair or honest to leave 1 star, since I didn't include my positive experience from child-hood, and focused instead only on the negative that occured in my adulthood. God would want me to be honest, not biased, and not moved by my emotions or unforgiveness. Jesus lovingly forgave me when He died on the cross for my many sins, and He died for these volunteers at Blackburn Center, also. Since God wants me to forgive others, and have mercy and love for them- the same way He's treated me- I have to say I forgive you, woman-counselor, for being unkind to me during our phone session in the past, and I hope the best for you. Like the Lord taught me over many years: I have to love people who hurt me; like the saying goes "Love the sinner, and hate the sin." Thank You, for Your divine love and truth, Jesus.
