If you are a mother of a child under the age of one that is on formula, I highly recommend do not go to the shelter. They have no formula for you. They don’t really have anything that a baby would need other than a crib. The food portions are small and disappointing. You’re still hungry after you eat. breakfast is done before 9 AM. The daycare ladies and case management were great. The Director has no compassion. Personally I don’t believe that she should be the Director of a domestic abuse shelter. They have no respect for infants, bedtimes, or schedules. I had made a post one day on an app, asking for help for my car and then mentioned that I was in a domestic abuse shelter in Webster. Somehow the Director of the shelter got a hold of it demanded that I deleted it, or I would be exited out of the shelter. She made me feel like a piece of crab about my post. And was just very condescending. They need to find someone else to be the Director because she is not it. All around just super disappointed. I do not recommend going here.

Called them on 1/14 to see about donating some canned goods, they informed me that the soonest they had was 1/28, which seemed too far out for a place like this. Then today (1/27/25 @ 3:07PM) they email me "Unfortunately, there was a scheduling conflict with your donation appointment, and it must be changed from Tuesday the 28th to Wednesday the 29th". This is 19 hours before my appointment, completely ridiculous! I will be taking my donations else where, because if this is how they manage donations, I cannot imagine how this place functions on the inside. Sad.

The reviews were my experience as well. If you are a single, this maybe a good opportunity for you to get on your feet or maybe if you have a very simple case or already have a plan and needed a place to stay for a couple of weeks to a month but those who experienced abrupt change and those with children… I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone. You and they will stay sick. It’s a very tiring environment to live in. The rules are inconsistent. The goal post always moves. The process keeps you in survival, fight or flight mode. Before they resolve any of your problems, they will belittle you, your experience, & your intelligence. The good are always choosing between “it’s either you or my job” Those who actually listen can do very little. It is overcrowded. I felt very unsafe and my belongings were stolen twice. If you lived a somewhat good life outside of the shelter, this is not the best place to be. If you’re nice, please reconsider. It’s a very similar experience to an abusive relationship in my opinion. To a logical person, nothing will make sense. I just wanted to be honest because most women don’t know what they are getting into once they go. I think it helps you to make the best decision for you and your family. The area is very magical if you’re into nature but the good is very well overshadowed by the bad. This is the very least I could say. Wish you and your family the best
