Run far away from this toxic environment 138th street and cypress is a hell hole the staff allow tenants to take people under age kids out of child care without the parent consent. The case workers don’t do their jobs they released my personal information from my file to another tenant which I was informed that’s a violation of hippa and the staff is still working here smh if we do get good staff they don’t stay for long they always end of leaving. Some of the guards don’t do their jobs they either sleeping or not in their booths or either they don’t show up for work. The building is not safe and it’s disgusting as far as clean wise. I’m surprised this building is not shut down I’ve been here since this building first opened its doors and I regret moving in.

It’s crazy because I’m not disformed in the face this place couldn’t help me and I am mentally disabled with bad bipolar and ptsd but since my face wasn’t squished up they can’t help and don’t consider me disabled I’m done

This is a good place. Don't believe the few complaints. I lived here since BFL opened and the Administrative Staff does the best they can and has done many things for the benefit of the tenants that go unappreciated. You can't please everyone... The goal of Barrier Free Living is to support (not carry) the tenants along their journey toward independent living. The building(s) are cleaned daily unlike the neighboring Projects, Safety is prioritized with around the clock staff. The resident aids screen all visitors who can only enter with valid Identification. There are social services during business hours that offer general support, referrals and, suggestions. BFL is always coming up with activities for the tenants giving away gifts for the families and children. Also, providing gifts, gift cards and prizes for all its tenants... They have with the occasional help of volunteer tenants planned trips, special events for all the major holidays and the list goes on you won't find accommodations in the projects a shelter where many of us had lived prior.... BFL supports victims of domestic violence, Vets, as well as those that maybe physically or mentally challenged. It goes back to the old saying "you can lead a horse to water but can't make them drink"... No one can fix my life but me and that requires me doing my part and applying the tools and help given if success is truly my goal.
