Very grateful for ATCMD!

I’m really disappointed in the lack of help that was offered from whoever is working in the Intake department of this facility. I myself am a graduate of the Teen Challenge Women’s Home in Rhode Island from 2019. The program, structure, and foundation saved my life and I will forever be grateful. I had a friend reach out to me recently seeking help for her 16 year old male cousin. I was aware that this specific location only housed and treated adults but I still emailed them and was very clear that I was inquiring about a teenage male. They then emailed me back today ( a week later ) with nothing but “call me” and a phone number. very unprofessional. after i reached back out to my friend and passed the number along she told me that they called and the person they spoke with told them “we don’t accept teens” and then proceeded to state that they couldn’t help any further and that was where the conversation ended. I completed my program when I was at TC and right after I stayed with them to do an internship and worked there to help bring more women in. There were SEVERAL times when we got calls from people seeking help that were outside of our available assistance, but we still did our part to try and point them in the right direction and remain empathetic and passionate while doing so. This was not the experience that my friend was given and for that reason I am very upset and disappointed. They didn’t even offer to pray with her about her grandson who needs help. A 16 year old, addicted to fentanyl. As soon as I heard that I would have immediately felt moved to pray, at the LEAST. Those who are called to work for this program are called there by God to help in anyway they can, and that was not extended by whoever is working in this admissions department. Something needs to be done about that. Something like this would have never been allowed or accepted from the house that I completed my program in. Please do better.

Where to start. I LOVE Adult & Teen Challenge of Maryland! Over ten years my husband enter a "feeding program" of Adult & Teen Challenge. There he found freedom from his 10+ years of heroine addiction. After many, many programs he finally found a program that was dedicated to not only helping him get "clean" but also dedicated to his life after he was able to find freedom from addiction. After his graduation he joined Adult & Teen Challenge as a staff member and as the years passed he knew he would dedicate the rest of his life serving in one capacity or another giving back to the ministry that saved his life. My husband now serves on staff at Adult & Teen of Maryland as their Program Director. Everyday he immerses himself in the lives of the students to help them find the same freedom he has. He comes from a place of experience. He can relate to every student that walks through the doors. Their stories are his stories. Their pain is his pain. Been there, done that, but... OVERCAME! He is proof that addiction is not the end, but a chapter in his life. "Once and addict, always an addict" is a lie. Total freedom from addiction is possible through Jesus Christ. My husband is a living example of that. If you or a loved one is looking for a place that will offer a full transformation from addiction, I cannot recommend more highly Adult & Teen of Maryland.
