Honestly the time they took to respond to me was so very quick and the lady that let me and my babies in was so very helpful and I can tell she felt a lot about me and my babies. Treated me and evaluated with me about what awaic is and I will never forget her for her surging kindness. As we got settled. The morning desk or midshift ladies at the desk. One African American and the other I believe somoen. Didn’t acknowledge me, didn’t answer my questions and I felt like I was a bother to them! I needed a bed sheet, I had asked kindly and was so very patient with them. I figured those two didn’t feel like they enjoyed their job. No consideration for women who go to that shelter for help and safety. That night I was very very broken and I felt that those two made me feel even more worse. The rest of the staff answered and helped me feel more comfortable there. Especially with 2 toddlers. I was very grateful for a bed to sleep on and my girls ate whatever was given. We were safe and warm. My only wish is that those two inconsiderate ladies had more respect and consideration for the ladies that do go through a lot that come here to not feel so lost. If you’re not a people person. Don’t work at where you give vulnerable women attitude and make them feel like they’re nothing less than you. Especially if you got kids at home not knowing who you really are at work towards those who need help. Thank you.

In 2012 AWAIC saved me & my kids!! Fast forward to now, it took me 2 months to reach someone & I only received a message back because I posted my experience on social media., but the person who reached out truly helped & answered my question, & directed me exactly where I needed to go & I APPRECIATE her, 🙏🏼, & I APPRECIATE the ppl I have worked with. I do see alot of negative comments on here,, & I understand each comment, some I agree w. Especially the ones speaking about how AWAIC use to be.. you use to have to COOK your own FOOD,, they had very specific RULES,,,, CHORES,, & you had to follow these RULES! You didn't get a APT VOUCHER unless you chose to take CLASSES. & there was a ZERO STEALING TOLERANCE,, ZERO MALES in the BUILDING. EVERY caseworker was KIND at AWAIC decades ago!! I do think that the majority of the caseworkers now at AWAIC are extremely KIND ,COMPASSIONATE & CARING ppl & they truly want to help & see woman SUCCEED!!🙏🏼

I had the opportunity to stay here after leaving a domestic violence relationship i thought i was going to be ok but that's not the point here....I suffering from PTSD AND IMPULSIVE DISORDER AND OTHER MENTAL ILLNESS... Upon arriving i thought it was going to help me but no...certain case managers ulu doest do their job I don't talk to her she never reached out to me don't help me at all...I even reported the abuse to the higher upper Ms. Heidi about certain mental abuse I suffered from certain staff at the Awaic... these are the few people who goes out there way to help people...these people makes u feel like a person human...Ms. Angie Ms. Corrine Ms. Maple. Ms. Tuli. Ms. Sena Mr. Kendrick Mr. Zack. Mr. Mr. MJ the cook...and Ms. Victoria I had the employees targeting me because I wasn't going to allow them to treat me any type of way...the program is good but it's the staff in the back with a certain case manager who's making it bad...I reported it and my services was stopped for certain things do to retaliation from the staff end, some of the higher up management in the HR. Department and above that...to a point I told the Ms. Hedi my thing is that since everything that happened to me here if I need yall service again I might not get it because of being blackballed for standing up....I had to report this to my therapist because the people who cares at this place seems to get let go but keeps the bad employees their....
