Abortion is illegal in Mississippi unless either the life of the mother is at risk or in cases of rape reported to law enforcement. Mothers must attend mandatory counseling with a 24 hour waiting period before deciding upon an abortion only permitted to be performed by a physician, and must receive an ultrasound. The state requires an in-person exam and that the first dose of medication abortion be taken on-site. State Medicaid coverage is not granted except in limited circumstances. Parental consent is required for minors.
