If anyone reading this needs help fleeing domestic violence, please go to Women and Children's Horizons. You can get help in the form of restraining order assistance, shelters, and more. The people that work there are amazing and really care about their clients. There are advocates that will help you fill out a restraining order petition, and they'll even go to court with you to support you. Usually their shelters are full, unfortunately. However, they will give you a list of other shelters in the area and other resources. If, God forbid, you or your children are victims of a crime, they will do everything they can to help you or your kids to have some normalcy. If you're a foster parent or have a relative's child in your care, they will also help. I know someone who unfortunately had both situations, their child was a victim of a crime and they also had a child for kinship care. The Xmas of the year that happened, they gave the children so many presents, it was enough to pack the entire cargo area of a larger SUV. They also gave the Mom a lot of gift cards, so her lufe could be easier and her financial strain wasn't as bad. Bless the workers of Women and Children's, they're doing wonderful things for the people of this community. If you want to help their cause, they take donations (I'm pretty sure) and of monetary donations aren't your thing, you can support their cause by shopping at Nifty Thrifty on 39th Ave between 45th St and Washington Ave. All proceeds made there go to support Women and Children's and therefore the women and their kids who are in bad situations.

Karryann was the only good thing about this place. Until she over either herself and they refused to pay her for her time. Then they ended up Understaffed. Advocates and upper management bends rules for certain clients, Advocates have personally threatened and threatened to fight me and kick me out because they had a friend who didn't like me. The director, Jennifer, made promises knowing that if I were to leave of end up back at my abusers place. And because of this post, that's exactly what happened. She didn't want the truth out there about how she ran the place. There is no structure for clients OR clients with kids. It's sad to know that what you see a parent do to a child that is considered "ok parenting" (cursing, hitting, keeping them awake til all hours because the parent wants to watch TV), how that parent is ACTUALLY going to treat their child(ren) when they leave the shelter. Most staff is either only here for the money, isn't educated in the areas for the shelter or picks and chooses who they want to help. This place needs to wake up and do what is needed because their are ppl who need this place. The only way problems will be made aware is if someone speaks up to make them aware. I guess that person has to be me. But my word won't be spread the way it needs to be. This message is not meant to all be negative, it's meant for awareness!

Feeling Blessed and thankful today. I am coming close to a year that an angel named Kerryann answered the phone for me and said yes to have safe bed to sleep in that night. I had called about 30 places before I talked yo her and they all did not have room for me. Broken, bruised, and feeling defeated this women excepted me without a second thought. I came with what I had on my back. She welcomed me like we knew other for years. When I say this women help save my life, it's not a lie. Not only did she help clothe me, feed me, she was there to support me and give me an ear to talk to. To help with getting away from the situation I was in and made me feel my worth again. The love and care she shows to her clients is amazing. She taught me how to be strong, she was a shoulder to cry on and has the biggest heart. She goes out of her way on her own time to help anyone in need out. While still having a beautiful family at home. There was years I did not feel safe from physical and emotional abuse. However Kerryann presence in my life change me and my children's lives forever. I will forever be in your debt. I feel like Thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul for helping me save my life and helping me to look towards the future. Thanks you for helping me see the light at the tunnel. God Bless Kerryann.
