Fel G rated 2 3 years ago I have recently donated items to this location in hopes that they may serve those who really need them. Both times when I have gone I have been told to fill out the paperwork with my information only and then they will fill out the list of items I dropped off. I did not see anything wrong with this the first time around and honestly, I don't care just as long as the items go to those who need them. The second time I went to donate, it was the same girl in the front as the time before. She seemed okay, but like the first time, not too friendly. Not a big deal, just want to donate items. I told her I could retrieve the rest of the items in the car myself and that I would be right back. When I walked back in someone in the back area was making comments about items I donated and it threw me off. Were they grateful I donated unused bottles to those who may need them or not? It was like they did not know that I was coming back in so they started commenting on items I had taken in. A lot of it like the time before were items my son can no longer use or never used because he outgrew them or did not have a use for them.
Also, I asked about donating formula because if not I'm sure I could find another shelter or maybe a mother who may be in need. The response was, "Oh, I think we take it..." and that was the end of that. No, "Oh, we will let you know or we will return it if we don't..." or, "Hang on to it just in case and we will get back to you.." And yes, I had previously called on multiple occasions and it was always that they were "unsure" or, "I don't know, but I think so..."They went ahead and took the bag without confirming if they could or could not accept it... that's my money that I spent to help someone else in need. Keep in mind I don't make a lot of money. It just happened to be on sale so I purchased it and wanted to drop it off with the other items I wanted to donate to the shelter. They took it in the bags that had the bottles and that was that. I didn't want to make a big deal because I didn't want to look like a jerk so I just let it go in hopes they'd let me know something.
Lastly, before I left I asked if they accept car seats. The young woman informed me they do, but no one was available to inspect it. I told her that was fine, I just don't need it so I would like to donate it if possible at a later date. Any time I mentioned wanting to donate anything to this woman or asked about what items I could donate it was met with zero expression. This occurred the first time as well. It makes me feel uneasy all together about donating at all to this place. After my experience on both occasions what guarantee do I have that people are receiving any items that I drop off to you all?
Originally I was okay with just dropping things off and trusting that the items get sorted out, what's okay and what's not, and then they are given to those who are in need. After my last visit, the comments from those in the back made me feel uneasy.
I am not looking for a quick buck or any money because if I was I could have easily gone to an online group and posted all of my items there. I am looking to help those who need it. |
