I wish I could give zero stars. I came to this organization after escaping a severely abusive situation in another state. I was seeking safety and support, and instead, I was met with mistreatment, unfair treatment, and complete disregard for my well-being. I was staying at their shelter and was suddenly forced to leave for “breaking the rules.” The issue is that I was not the only one who supposedly broke these rules—yet I was the only one punished. Other residents routinely drank, partied, and kept open alcohol containers in their rooms, but none of them were removed. I was singled out and thrown into the freezing cold winter weather with almost no warning and without the chance to gather all of my belongings. Meanwhile, others who violated the same rules were allowed to stay comfortably inside. This experience was inhumane. This organization claims to help people escaping abuse, but it felt like the opposite. I was treated as if I didn’t matter, brushed aside, and ignored—even though I came from a real, dangerous situation. I was even told by another resident, “No offense, but you’re the only one here who isn’t a mother,” as if that justified the bias. That same person who drank every night was never held accountable, while I faced the consequences alone. I never thought I’d escape a sex-trafficking situation only to be mistreated by the very people who are supposed to help victims. It’s heartbreaking and unacceptable. People are playing favorites, looking the other way, and allowing individuals who lie about their circumstances to stay, while real victims are pushed out into unsafe conditions. I want others to be aware before seeking help here. What I went through left me emotionally distressed, abandoned in the cold, and robbed of the basic dignity this shelter advertises. No one in true crisis should ever be treated this way.
