"I am speaking out because the Bethlehem Maternity Home, supported by the Gabriel Project of the Crossroads, is silencing the very women it claims to serve. While the care I received initially felt genuine, it soon became clear that it was conditional. I was forced to navigate a constant 'glaze' of threats, where I was told I must follow ever-changing rules or face devastating consequences. The director’s true colors fully showed when I chose to leave on my own terms to prioritize my son’s medical safety. Despite having lived there for five months and being only two weeks post-op from a high-risk C-section and endometriosis surgery, I was met with blatant disrespect. I was threatened with being arrested and having my children and our belongings forcibly removed from the property—the place I had called home while in an incredibly fragile physical state. It is no coincidence that there are so few reviews from the women this program is meant to help. We are kept under strict rules and pressured to stay silent unless we portray the home in a positive light. While the director and a board—who rarely interact with us in person—use our stories to secure funding and donations, the reality inside is one of policing rather than true support. My decision to leave was a choice to prioritize my children’s safety, yet we were penalized for it. When I moved my belongings through the Gabriel Project offices, our personal property and donations intended for my family were picked through and taken. Most heartlessly, the Christmas gifts donated specifically for my children by Formosa Plastics were withheld from them. I refuse to let our story be swept under the rug; I am speaking up so that no other mother has to endure being threatened with the loss of her children and her freedom simply for advocating for their well-being."
