Bethany and Anna (and their student midwife Louise) are top notch when it comes to providing the most professional birthing midwifery experience. I switched from hospital care to midwifery care midway through my 3rd trimester in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. I knew from the beginning that I wanted a unmedicated but hadn't considered a home birth.
The first phone call I made to Bethany she was able to answer every question and concern we had with ease. I could tell right away how knowledge Bethany was and could hear the passion in her voice. After deciding on Shiphrah and getting to meet Bethany and Anna I knew right away that we made the right choice. My prenatal appointments were never rushed, filled with questions and a thorough check up of both me and baby. They made sure I knew the importance of good nutrition and gave me countless tips and advice on how to prepare for my birth and postpartum. The difference of midwifery care with Shiphrah and hospital care isn't even comparable! I felt for the first time that I had someone actually care about me and my baby as person and not just another patient. Bethany Anna and Louise are all very outgoing, confident and to simply put ... AMAZING. They have many years of work under their belts not just with patients but with experience being mother's themselves.
Not many women get to say this so I am truly blessed... I had literally the most amazing, euphoric, and supported unmedicated home birth experience. So much so that I am actually looking forward to the next time I get to do it again. I had a FAST seven hour labor that started at 2:30am in the morning. Calvin was born in our living room on the air mattress at 9:34a ❤ I thought I was dreaming, everything happened so fast. The entire time I felt like I was surrounded with love. Bethany, Anna and Louise, my Doula Shannon from Blessed Births of Iowa, and incredible husband Dillon all made me feel so safe and capable of getting Calvin into this world. Everyday I look at Calvin I am thankful that I had them to help me get him here safely.
Shiphrah was not only there for me prenatal, and birth but also postpartum. They constantly checked on me and baby and were available to answer any question I had anytime of day. They've taught me so much.
Our bodies are so incredible and capable. I loved being in my own home, where I was able to take my time and literally let my body do all the work. I don't remember ever consciously telling my self to push. My body did it all. I wasn't afraid, I wasn't stressed, I know I felt pain but I don't remember it (good job to my brain releasing all that oxytocin hahah). I never felt pressured, rushed or anxious. It was in the best words I can use to describe it ... beautiful, magical, and out of this world.
I am still beaming over every aspect of the birth. Having the support I feel like helped me easily breastfeed, bond and recover postpartum.
Home birth isn't for everyone but I can easily say that this was the way for me and how I will do it with all my future children with my assembled female "Avengers" team. ❤
Thank you Bethany, Anna and Louise. I have so much love for the work you do. You changed my life and you will all have a special place in our hearts for helping us get our first born child here. |
