This place is truly an amazing blessing!!! They allowed me to stay here for a few months until I got a place. After i finally left my abusive children’s father of 9 years. I felt very safe. Just follow the rules and you’ll be just fine. They have rules for a reason. The employees are wonderful!! Couldn’t ask for anything more. They have helped me with every single referral I’ve needed. Helped me get a DVPO. Mrs Vicky my advocate at the shelter is such a kind beautiful soul that wants to help you in every way she can. She has truly been a wonderful support to me. Mrs Brie, Mrs Jackie, Mrs D, Mason, Kiley….all are absolutely amazing and a real blessing to this world. Thank you so much for sharing your kindness and support with me.
Only complaint I have is how I had to be at work super early in the morning and the moms let their kids stomp all in front of peoples doors after 8pm. Sounds like someone is literally beating on the walls. It was absolutely insane how loud they were. I have kids…. I get it. But I teach my children to RESPECT OTHERS. I wouldn’t ever allow my children to do anything like that. Especially right in front of someone else’s door. This is a community of different people and different races. This is not your own house. Kids honestly have all day to stomp and be loud. They really should have a quite down time after 8pm to respect other people living in the house that have to go to bed early.

Not sure if this is the usual response given here but I made a report with the help of this shelter and was told they would look into things and call me back (both the officer and the staff here said this to me)..long story short I have been into the main office 3-4 different times to check in because I never received a follow up phone call or anything to check in. My guess is this place is highly understaffed. It would be better to admit that tho instead of gambling with peoples lives. We turn to shelters like this when we have run out of other options so this was a huge let down..it has been over 3 months and I STILL have not received a call from anyone…and the context of what had been going on for me was pretty bad to just be ignored…

Good Evening review reader's I actually am a domestic violence survivor in Wilmington North Carolina I came to the Open Gate with a positive attitude even though I'm at a lowest point in my life being displaced for years and I was denied because she said it wasn't any funding and couldn't receive a voucher for help when another woman just walked past me and said that she received help and even asked me to leave the facility when I was waiting for ny sister talk about women empowerment it really doesn't exist here. What do you think?? Mother of six with no help homeless and abused she wouldn't even take the the time to give me resources
