About This Service
Open House Youth Shelter is committed to improving the safety and well-being of displaced abused, neglected and vulnerable youth. Children and adolescents ages 6-18 who are in need of a safe place to stay can receive shelter in the 24-hour, 9-bed facility. Open House does more than just meet youths' basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. Personal growth is encouraged through counseling services, vocational/educational opportunities, life skill building, and recreational activities. All confidential services are provided at no cost to youth and their families, and continue for a period of three months after discharge, to maximize the success of the family reunification plan.

Horrible place. They had me spent roughly 2 hours completely alone in my bedroom during medication time every day, the mattresses were covered in crinkly uncomfortable plastic, food was decent at BEST, but as a severely food conscious, picky disordered eater I was left mostly eating cereal and PB&J sandwiches. They didn’t even serve lunch. Extreme expectations were forced upon me such as me having to deep scrub my entire bathroom all by myself on my first day, mob the floors, and do my own laundry even though I repeatedly told them I didn’t know how. Forced me to go to a doctors appointment with a doctor who wasn’t even mine and didn’t even let me speak to “my” doctor privately, forcing me to reveal completely embarrassing things to a stranger who worked there.. Ran by a bunch of inexperienced 20 year olds. There was NO education and I was even denied educational things since they didn’t like the topic; (Topic was about mental health) and worse yet, they ended up psych hospitalizing me over completely asinine reasons (I had a panic attack mood swing breakdown over my mistreatment here, accidentally hit one of the staff by trying to grab her phone) and they didn’t call my parents to let them know where I was!! My parents were terrified not knowing where I was!! My IVC was thrown out on that same night so I got hospitalized for no reason. Only good thing about this place was the arts n crafts and their Disney+ subscription. Overall terrible place but wasn’t the worst foster placement I ever had. Don’t go here if you can avoid it! Don’t trust this place with your kids.

I’m 22 now, but I stayed here when I was 11 and that experience changed my life for the better. I love this place and what they do, I wouldn’t be here without them. Thank you to everyone involved in helping to keep this necessary and strong hearted place going. I will never forget the kindness and safety shown to me. ❤️
