Zahra Reid rated 5 6 years ago My boyfriend found this place on the internet while we were living in two different states, I was in Maryland and he was in North Carolina where I was originally from. When I first came to the center, I didn't know what to expect, my appointment was set for 10 a.m. (their opening time), but I had arrived early and was buzzed in by a very nice lady I later become to know as Ms.Jean. So I ran to McDonald's got something to eat and came back to the center. I filled out the paperwork and met with their head counselor whom was very supportive. The day before I had taken a home pregnancy test that came out positive but when I took the test at CT it came back negative.
My daughter at the time was 4 months old and I wasn't ready for another baby and was deeply contemplating an abortion. The people who work at this center give women a hope they can't find in themselves. Me included. Before I left they offered several things that I needed for my daughter. Diapers, wipes, and anything else I needed. They also helped me get food for my family (siblings and mother) since I was going through financial difficulty.
I was scheduled to come back to the center and take another test but before I could get back there I was involved in an assault by my stepfather and suffered a few serious injuries. In the hospital I was given a pregnancy test in which came out positive.
I headed back to CT two days after my hospital release. I was torn and broken. My VERY supportive boyfriend was 1,000 miles away and I slightly felt like I was going through this alone. Until I went back to CT.
I met with Jalannia which was whom I'd originally spoke with when I set up my appointment and we went through the whole entire greet-and-meet which got very emotional on my end. But I was supported, this woman who barely knew me gave me a hug that made me feel I enveloped in a true care. Very maternal. Anyway I gave Jalannia the discharge papers from the hospital and she proceeded to get me the help I need which entailed getting an ultrasound. Not only did she set up the appointment but she personally offered to go with me.
Between the time of the appointment and seeing Jalannia I got into an argument with my mother surrounding pressing charges on her husband and she blamed me for him ended up in jail and kicked me out her house. So when I met with Jalannia at the Pregnancy center I was staying with a co-worker until I could get back to NC, we went through the ultrasound, we heard no heartbeat and saw no movement. I repeated my pregnancy test with slight tissue in my urine sample which came back negative. I was in process of losing my baby. And once again surrounded with love, care, kindness, support, everything I didn't have in Maryland. The man I was madly in love with and the father of my child couldn't be there but I was surrounded with so much that I knew I could get through it.
I was getting things in order to move back to NC and I had just lost my job so I didn't have the funds to get everything to move but this center helped me beyond measure.
I successfully moved and found a safe environment for me and my daughter thanks to Centro Tepeyac. I feel like everyone should know that this isn't just a "center" or a "clinic". The women who work here really care about the women who walk through their doors. They provide resources, help, but in my opinion, most importantly they provide care. You really know that these women are here for the betterment of your life. To listen, and support. It's been a few months since I originally met with this amazing place and to this day, I still receive calls, and support from the women in this center. I your looking for a place that's going to have your back it's Centro. |
