My initial experience was thru attendance of a three (3) day spiritual retreat and having the servant-staff reveal that they were also receiving treatment from addiction to drugs and alcohol. I was sold already by the excellence in service (i.e. greeting, cleanliness, 3-course tasty meals, room accommodation, peaceful and pleasant atmosphere, etc.). However, the #1 winning 5-star rating is given because there was no evidence that these people were ever addicted to substance. They were lively, alert, attentive and grateful outwardly. None of them were drowsy / lethargic in their physical presentation. No “maintenance” drugs are given to them in “exchange” for drugs they came off of previously to admission into treatment. They were set free and extremely thankful for their experience (The Colony of Mercy / Barbara’s Place). I will recommend this place to everyone I come in contact with who is bound by the disease of addiction and wanting out of that low-level lifestyle!

This is a truly incredible place. I have seen men liberated from their sins and addiction here. It is a place where men are made new. God molds, remakes, and restores lives, marriages, and relationships that have been devastated by addiction and brokenness. The staff are loving, welcoming, and truly a blessing. There is hope here for all who are weary and heaven laden.
